Avance-patched Linux kernels provided  with older releases of Avance are no longer compatible. Update your Linux kernel to one that is compatible with Avance R3 and Citrix XenServer 6.0.

RHEL/CentOS 5.x Virtual Machines

Linux VMs running the stock kernels distributed with RedHat and CentOS versions 5.4 or newer are fully compatible with Avance. No updates required.

Older RedHat and CentOS versions 5.0 – 5.3 shipped with kernels that are not compatible and must be updated. Also, Avance-patched Linux kernels from earlier Avance versions are  no longer compatible and must be updated.

Updating 5.x Linux Kernels

If your kernel is not compatible with Avance/Xen or you want to take advantage of kernel bug fixes and security updates, we recommend that you update the kernel on your Linux VM to the latest provided by your Linux vendor (e.g. RedHat or CentOS).

Step 1: In the Linux VM, run the following command as the root user:

# yum update kernel

Note: You will be prompted to download and install the latest kernel. Enter y to confirm the update.

Step 2: Reboot the VM to complete the kernel Installation.

RHEL/CentOS 4.x Virtual Machines

IMPORTANT: RedHat / CentOS 4.x VMs must be running the latest patched kernel for R3.x – older patched kernels from Avance R2.x are no longer supported and must be updated.

Update/Install 4.x to the latest kernel

Step 1: Download the following supported Linux kernel RPM and save it on your Linux VM.

• Linux kernel RPM for RedHat/CentOS 4.x (32-bit)

Step 2: In the Linux VM, run the following command as the root user:

# rpm –i ––force rpm-file

Note: Replace rpm-file with the name of the kernel RPM file you downloaded.

Step 3: Finally, reboot the VM to complete the kernel Installation.
